Just a quick one here. It's Sunday morning - July 3rd and that means it's the final day of the Jazz Festival! Oh my. What a run. Saturday at David Lam Park was truly stellar, with wonderful weather for the better part of the day until the typical Van weather set in later in the evening. The music was fantastic yesterday with so many highlights.. would remiss not mention the incredible reception that bass / alto saxophonist Colin Stetson received for his solo, yet (multi contact miked) orchestral performance at the Roundhouse in the later afternoon. Spontaneous standing ovation. What a truly awesome discovery! (Thank you Reiner). Also great sets by The Thing, Fond of Tigers, Gord Grdina's Haram, Gonzalo Rubalcaba & Richard Galliano, Havard Wik & Francois Houle, Paal Nilssen-Love & Magnus Broo and tons more.. good workshops too. Even managed to squeak through the road blocks in and out of Granville Island last night for Kevin Breit & Sisters Euclid. Sounded great - good thing I was on my best behaviour!
So here's a few pics by two of my favourite photographers.. Enjoy the memories! Of course I hope to see many of you around DLP and the Roundhouse today. Don't forget the big shows tonight are: Paco de Lucia (and this is a rare opportunity to catch one of the greatest flamenco guitarists of all time) and for "out" jazz folk - the incredible Nordic quintet - ATOMIC. Live music rules!

That's it for today folks! Got to hustle down to DLP park for the HSJI festivities with amazing Nicole Mitchell (AACM / Chicago and wonderful flutist) and all of the talented high school musicians.
More photos to come next week! Cheers, Ken
